The Giant and the Castle is an illustration made fully in collage, using watercolor scraps to create the environment and character textures.
The Giant is a benevolent and friendly character, giving the traditional evil giant narrative a twist. Instead of pillaging the castle, he's gifting them a nice and shiny gold flag.

Sourcing the right colors among the watercolor scraps was the thing that made the entire collage story telling technique make sense, as some of my favorite colors started to pop up in the scrap pile: the dusky green mixed using cobalt turquoise and Naples yellow - and the purples using quinacridone shades with granulation.
